Today we are going to be looking at a recent shoot we did for Daren and his Mini GP. A fantastic little car and something that until recently I hadn't paid too much attention too. Automotive Photography - Mini GP Rig Shot
So starting off on an enormous industrial estate, that evening the sun was in the sky and I had a few hours to play around with this little beast. First to come out of the kit bag was the macro lens and I spent the best part of an hour shooting the details... boy were there some details.
Next it was time for the whole car to feature in a few pictures and after repositioning her she was looking fantastic and ready to go. Being such a short stocky motor the Mini really lends itself well to wide angles that exaggerate all of its features.
As the light was starting to fade and we had an array of full length shots it was time to bring out the rig. Attaching the rig and lining up in the right position whilst keeping on the strongest part of the panel always takes a bit of time. But once thats on and secure its time to get those wheels moving, literally.
Luckily the area we were using is on a slight incline and that meant the car would roll on its own momentum with out much effort, so after a few passes at various angles on the front it was time to remount on the back and repeat the process.
Rigging complete and now in darkness we made a move over to one of my favourite locations on the estate. Beautiful downlighting on a factory door set itself as the next backdrop, whilst lighting the car with flash to highlight the details otherwise in total shadow.
That was that, session complete…time to start editing.
A little trailer from the shoot.
